People working together for peace, justice and the restoration of the community of life.
Projects and Campaigns
Here at Earth Justice Ministries we consider the work of peacemaking, justice-building, and environmental healing as essential expressions of a spiritual perspective on life. We work with faith communities and secular organizations to try to heal what is broken and to plant seeds for a future of justice, peace, and well-being for all living things.
On Sunday, February 17, over 40,000 people gathered at the foot of the Washington Memorial to demonstrate against the Keystone XL pipeline, fracking, and other practices that are causing climate change. The purpose of this demonstration, organized by the Sierra Club and 350.org, was to urge President Obama to take strong action on climate change.
NASA scientist Jim Hansen has said that it's "game over" on the climate front if the Keystone XL pipeline is built. Sadly, on March 1, the State Department released a new environmental impact statement for the Keystone XL pipeline, claiming that approval of the 800,000 barrel-a-day pipeline was “unlikely to have a substantial impact” on the climate. This will make it even harder for President Obama to take a stand against the pipeline.
We have our work cut out for us. But tens of thousands of people around the world are organizing and taking strong stands for climate justice and sustainability.
On Sunday, March 17, following the regular silent worship at the Grass Valley Friends Meeting , Sharon Delgado will give a power point presentation on Climate Change. She has been speaking and writing about climate change for 25 years, and is a trained Climate Reality Project presenter. Go to her blog to see some of her recent writings about climate change.
Anti-Drone Demonstrators Trial Set for Tax Day
A trial date is set for five demonstrators who were arrested at Beale Air Force Base for crossing onto federal property while protesting drone warfare. Although nine people were arrested for nonviolent civil disobedience last October 30, charges were dropped against Father Louie Vitale, MacGregor Eddy, Barry Binks, and Toby Blome. The other five protestors, David and Jan Hartsough, Shirley Osgood, Janie Kesselman, and Sharon Delgado, face trial on April 15, Tax Day, in federal court in Sacramento.
We will keep people updated about this case, background information, and actions related to drone warfare through our Earth Justice Ministries website, Facebook page, and newsletter. Sharon Delgado is keeping people informed who follow her blog postings on drone warfare. Check out the Occupy Beale AFBwebsite for background and announcements about upcoming events.
In addition to this trial, a coalition of peace and justice groups around the country will be protesting drone warfare in April. To find out about the plans being made by the Network to Stop Drone Surveillance and Warfare (NSDSW) go to the website of the No Drones Network.

We are thrilled to announce that Representatives Rick Nolan (MN) and Mark Pocan (WI) have introduced Move to Amend's WE THE PEOPLE AMENDMENT in Congress. Other constitutional amendments that address Citizens United have also been introduced, but this is the only amendment that covers the many Supreme Court decisions that have granted constitutional rights to corporations and have defined money as speech. Find the wording of the resolution and keep up with its progress on our Nevada County Move to Amend website.
Earth Justice Ministries is affiliated with Move to Amend, a national coalition working to raise awareness and build momentum toward passing a constitutional amendment to abolish corporate personhood and declare that money is not speech. For more information on this national campaign or to find a Move to Amend group near you, check out the Move to Amend website. For background and a spiritual perspective on this issue, see "Democracy is for People" (http://sharondelgado.org/selected-writings-by-sharon-delgado/democracy-is-for-people/) by Sharon Delgado. This campaign to amend the constitution is born out of the vision is of a peoples’ democracy, where every person knows that we have input into the political process, and that our input counts.
On the afternoon of Sunday, March 24, Gold Star Mom and peace activist Cindy Sheehan will be in Nevada County as part of her "TourdePeace" bike ride across America for Peace. At the event to welcome Cindy, Sharon Delgado will also speak. This event is being sponsored by the Peace Center of Nevada County, who will clarify the time and place.

The Speechcraft program allows experienced Toastmasters to present the fundamentals of public speaking to non-members in an atmosphere of a Toastmasters club meeting. It's a great way for prospective members to see, first-hand, what Toastmasters is all about. To find out more go to the Toastmasters Speechcraft program,
The fee for the series is based on a sliding scale from $10 to $25, with no one turned away for lack of funds.
