Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP):

Guarionex Delgado, Earth Justice Ministries co-founder and board member, leads AVP workshops locally and regionally and is on the Steering Committee of AVP-California.  The Alternatives to Violence Project is an international movement of creative conflict resolution that is built on affirmation, respect for all, community, cooperation and trust. AVP is an association of community, school and prison-based groups offering experiential workshops in personal growth, nonviolent communication, community development, and creative conflict management. It was founded in prison and developed from the real-life experiences of prisoners. The organization encourages participants to access their innate “transforming power” to positively transform first themselves and then the world.  AVP is active in 45 countries, including such regions of conflict as Sudan, Palestine, Burundi and Rwanda. Workshops have been held with Israelis and Palestinians, and Hutu and Tutsi in the same workshops, learning to respect and reconcile with each other.  The Alternatives to Violence Project brings together diverse groups of people to build Dr. King’s nonviolent “beloved community”. “Together, we will build a more peaceful and equitable world.”  Find out more about the organization at AVP USA and AVP International, or Contact Guari to find out about upcoming workshops.  Workshops are by donation and scholarships are available.  At this time of shelter-in-place due to Covid 19, the California AVP Steering Committee is meeting by Zoom to find creative ways to continue their work, since in-person communication has been at its core.
