Ceasefire Vote Wednesday at City Council of Nevada City

The City Council of Nevada City has scheduled a vote on a ceasefire for this coming Wednesday night. The meeting starts at 6:30 in the City Council chambers.  There will also be a demonstration in support of both a ceasefire and an arms embargo against Israel at 4:30 at Callanan Park in Nevada City.

The ceasefire is the last agenda item:

Consideration of 1) A Report from the Consensus Building Institute (CBI) of findings associated with the beginnings of a Community Conversation on the Topic of Islamophobia, Antisemitism, and the Role of Local Government in Providing a Safe and Peaceful Community in Consideration of the On-Going Human Tragedy in Israel and Palestine; and 2) Resolution 2024-33: A Resolution of the City Council of the City of Nevada City, California Calling for a Ceasefire and an End to Violence Between Palestine and Israel Recommended Action: Receive the presentation and adopt the resolution

Op-Ed | Tom Durkin: My brain hurts

We need people to sign our HOW petition to amend the THOW ordinance.

Last week, I was on KVMR three times, once on YubaNet, and twice in The Union (including the front page last Friday), not to mention multiple Facebook posts and emails … and as of this writing, we only have 103 signatures.

We have a homeless crisis because of a housing shortage. There is absolutely no good or decent reason to exclude people from having a legal home in a trailer, RV or mobile home.

Please. It’s not okay for people to be living outside when legal, affordable housing could be made available by the stroke of a pen.

Gaza Ceasefire Pilgrimage and Walk

This Saturday: Please walk any part of the 22-mile-long Ceasefire Pilgrimage loop in Nevada City and Grass Valley with your neighbors, in solidarity with Palestinian families fleeing ethnic cleansing in Gaza. Sponsored by Earth Justice Ministries.

Here’s an approximate timetable:

1. Rood Center/Helling Library 7-7:30 am
2. Broad Street Bridge 8-8:15
3. Brunswick/Sutton Intersection 9:30-10
4. Various places around downtown Grass Valley 11 am-2 pm
5. Sierra College/Briarpatch roundabout 3 pm
6. Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital 3:30 pm
7. Rood Center 5:30-6 pm
